Russian UFO Crash and Recovery, 1968(?)

Russian UFO Crash and Recovery, 1968(?)

Late March, 1968 -

Location Berezovsky , Russian Federation

The details of a Russian UFO crash on or about 1969 are sketchy and somewhat suspect. This case comes from the so-called "Secret KGB Files," which were reportedly smuggled out of the former Soviet Union. Reportedly, $10,000 was paid for the information. The details of these secret files were first offered to the general public on 9-13-98 as part of a TNT special titled "The Secret UFO Files of the KGB." The show featured extraordinary film and still photographs of the UFO recovery, and also a portion of autopsy film on part of an alien body.

Psychokinesis and Telekinesis: Exploring Mind and Matter

Psychokinesis and Telekinesis

Exploring Mind and Matter

Evidence for Psychokinesis
Rhine's Early Studies

In 1934, several months prior to publishing his famous paper on Extra-Sensory Perception, Dr. J. B. Rhine received a visit from a young gambler. After comparing notes on conditions for success in psychic testing, he remarked that similar conditions seemed to favor his luck in gambling. Furthermore, he claimed that he himself was sometimes able to exercise a mind over matter effect on dice-throwing games. While belief in such an influence on dice was both common and ancient, until then it had not been deemed a serious problem for scientific study. Rhine discovered that preliminary experimentation would be quick, easy, and inexpensive. The results proved encouraging enough to warrant further research.

Experiments continued during the next decade using protocols that systematically eliminated bias from unbalanced dice. The dice were placed in special cups, so subjects could not use special tricks to throw them. Still later, the dice were placed in electrically-driven rotating cages and were also photographed automatically in order to eliminate experimenter error. In general, the tests entailed asking the subjects to will the fall of the dice with selected target faces showing. Numerous throws were made in succession for each target before another target was chosen.

By the end of 1941, a total of 651,216 experimental die throws had been conducted. The combined results of these experiments pointed to a phenomenon with 10115 to 1 odds against chance occurrence. Nevertheless, Rhine hesitated to publish his results. The scientific world was still reacting emotionally to his announced proof of ESP, and he felt no need then to raise eyebrows by announcing another unorthodox discovery.

In 1942, with most of the staff at the Parapsychology Laboratory called away to war, continued experimentation in PK proved difficult. At this time, Rhine went over the records of earlier experiments so conducted that an analysis of position effects could be made, similar to the decline of high ESP scoring toward the end of experimental sessions, detected a few months earlier. If the above chance results had been caused by probability, artifacts, or illegitimate means, one would expect the distribution of hits would be consistent throughout the experiment and would not decline.

The results of this survey indicated there were more hits near the beginning of each run of 24 die throws. There were also more hits during the earlier runs of each experimental session which would typically last for ten runs. These results were not expected or even considered by the experimenters and subjects at the time of the experiments. The odds against such distribution occurring by chance were about a hundred million to one. This evidence of a presumably psychological effect, similar to that noted with ESP, made a case for psychokinesis strong enough to warrant publication. The first of the papers appeared in the Journal of Parapsychology in 1943. Many others followed.

In 1946 a study was published that pitted the psychokinetic skills of veteran gamblers against those of divinity students. In this contest atmosphere, both groups scored well above chance expectations.

PK With Random Number Generators (RNGs)

The random number generator experiments pioneered by Helmut Schmidt, previously described as tests of precognition, have also been used extensively as tests for psychokinesis. As mentioned earlier, it seems theoretically impossible to clearly distinguish between psychokinesis and precognition in quantitative research. Generally, the tests for psychokinesis are those in which the experimenter instructs the subject to will or intend that a particular target be selected by the RNG. This reduces the possibility that the subject could be using precognition, but does not eliminate the possibility of experimenter precognition. The hypothesis of intuitive data sorting suggests that the subject might use precognition to start the RNG at the exact time required to match the preselected PK target sequence.

One interesting version of the Schmidt RNG studies involved the cooperation of Robert Morris and Luther Rudolph at Syracuse University, with the experimental protocol published prior to the beginning of the experiment., These studies, which used prerecorded targets, were reviewed by skeptic James Alcock in a report for the National Research Council's study on methods for enhancing human performance. Alcock, who had access to the pertinent raw data, admitted that this study was much better executed than other studies by Schmidt and merited further replication attempts.

An elegant and sophisticated research program involving Random Event Generators has been underway for a number of years at Princeton University under the aegis of Dean Emeritus of Engineering, Robert Jahn, and management of psychologist Brenda Dunne. Other staff members include psychologists Roger Nelson and Angela Thompson, electrical engineer John Bradish, and physicist York Dobyns.

In the formal test series, generation rates of either 100 or 1000 per second are used, and each trial comprises 200 binary samples. The count data are permanently recorded on a strip printer as well as being entered on line into computer memory. The subject receives immediate feedback via electronic displays which show the number of trials, the number of hits in the last trial, and the average number of hits since some predetermined starting point. The REG and the on-line IBM PC/AT computer independently calculate the mean of each trial and the standard deviation for every block of fifty trials.

REG Testing at the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Program

The equipment can be run in one of two modes, either manual or automatic. In the former case, the machine will generate a trial only when a switch is pressed; while in the automatic mode, once started, the machine will automatically initiate a block of fifty trials.

There are two types of procedure, either "volitional mode," in which case the subject chooses whether to aim for a high score (PK+) or a low score (PK-) in a given run, or "instructed mode" where some kind of random process determines which way the subject is to aim.
There are also baseline runs interspersed ("in some reasonable fashion," the nature of which is unspecified) with the PK runs; in this case the subject is to exert no influence, so that these will serve as a randomization check. The choice of volitional/instructed mode and automatic/manual mode are "normally left to the preference of the operators (subjects), but they are encouraged to undertake additional series employing the other modes for comparison."

The formal data base consists of well over 750,000 trials (or 150,000,000 binary digits) carried out on two different machines by thirty-three different subjects over a period of nearly ten years. Typically, a session had three types of trials: high aim, low aim, and a control series. Pooled, overall results of the high- and low-aim trials are clear: significantly higher scores for high aim; significantly low scores for low aim. The outcome of the control trials was illuminating. Here the subjects were told not to try to influence the REG. Presumably, they hoped their data would be "normal." In fact, although the mean score was almost identical with the theoretical mean, the distribution was unique: a statistically significant surplus of scores at the precise theoretical mean. When control, high-aim, and low-aim series are pooled, the distribution is what would be expected by chance. This result, which may be the consequence of the subjects' intentions to "achieve a baseline" in the control condition, shows the difficulty of conducting psi experiments with a true control group.

Interestingly, both earlier and later calibration trials nicely conformed to a normal statistical curve, showing that the equipment was probably operating properly. If psi is operating in the ostensible control tests, then the critics' demands for additional control tests seems naive.

Ironically, comparable results were obtained using a pseudo-random noise source (i.e., based on both computer algorithms and prerecorded targets). This finding makes it difficult to interpret the Princeton data in terms of a conventional psychokinesis hypothesis. How can one psychokinetically influence targets which have already been determined? For this reason, the Princeton team does not attempt to describe their research program as a test of PK, but simply refers to the program as a study of anomalous man-machine interactions.

The Princeton team has gone to great lengths to try to ensure that their equipment is unbiased. Internal circuits are continually monitored with regard to internal temperature, input voltage, etc. Successive switching of the relationship between the sign of the noise and the sign of the output pulse on a trial-to-trial basis was done to provide a further safeguard against machine bias. Results were automatically recorded and analyzed. Extensive tests of the machine's output and its individual components were also carried out at times separate from the test sessions. The provision of baseline trials interspersed with test trials provided a randomization check which overcame some of the weaknesses of Schmidt's procedure.

Psi researcher John Palmer has drawn attention to the fact that there is no documentation regarding measures to prevent data tampering by subjects. This is of concern since the subject was left alone in the room during the formal sessions along with the REG.
In evaluating these studies, skeptic James Alcock claimed that only one subject (Operator 10) accounted for virtually all the significance departures from chance in the Princeton studies. Noting that details regarding precautions against subject cheating were not specified, Alcock stated:

I am not trying to suggest that this subject cheated; I am only pointing out that it would appear that such a possibility is not ruled out. Had the subject been monitored at all times, such a worry could have been avoided or at least reduced.

The Princeton team has chosen a policy of keeping the identity of all experimental subjects anonymous -- among other reasons, in order to eliminate motivation for subjects to cheat. However, the fact that Subject 10 contributed considerably more to the database than any other subject, suggests that this individual was either a member of the experimental team or someone who had become a close friend of the experimenters. As such, Subject 10 might well have had access to information which would make it possible to tamper with the data recording system.

In response to the criticisms of Palmer and Alcock, the Princeton researchers have prepared a detailed analysis of the equipment, calibration procedures and various precautions against data-tampering. According to the researchers, the automated and redundant on-line recording of data preclude data tampering -- as does the protocol requirement that the printer record be on one continuous, unbroken paper strip. It would appear that all necessary precautions have been taken, short of submitting subjects to constant visual observation. The subjects are submitted to intermittent visual observation which the researchers believe is sufficient to control against tampering with the equipment, given their particular setup.

In further response to Alcock's critique, the Princeton team conducted further analyses of the data which show that the anomalous RNG effects were contributed by most of the subjects, and were not dependent upon the scores of Subject 10. Several other subjects, who participated in fewer experimental trials, actually had scores with greater chance deviations. By analyzing the data from only the first series of 7,500 trials (1,500,000 binary digits) from each subject, it was possible to level the influence that Subject 10 exerted on the database. In this analysis, with each subject carrying an equal weight, the results were significantly beyond chance. Another analysis was conducted which eliminated all of the data from Subject 10. This, too, was statistically significant.

A comprehensive meta-analytic review of the RNG research literature encompassing all known RNG studies between 1959 and 1987 has been reported by Radin and Nelson, comprising over 800 experimental and control studies conducted by a total of 68 different investigators. The probability 597 experimental series was p < 10-35, whereas 235 control series yielded an overall score well within the range of chance fluctuation. In order to account for the observed experimental results on the basis of selective reporting (assuming no other methodological flaws), it would require "file drawers" full of more than 50,000 unreported studies averaging chance results.

Some people seem to produce data in random number generator (RNG) experiments that display idiosyncratic patterning that appears to be consistent from one run to the next. To explore the idea of person-unique signatures, Dean Radin, working at Princeton University, used a powerful, new "neural network" computational technique that is proving to be adept at discovering weak patterns in noisy data.

Dean Radin

Neural networks are a form of parallel processing based upon research about how the brain encodes and processes information.

The power of these networks rests upon the discovery that when numerous elementary processing units are richly interconnected under the right conditions, they can automatically learn to associate arbitrarily complex inputs with arbitrarily complex outputs. Information processing in these networks takes place in the interactions among large numbers of artificial neurons. Learning takes place by changing the interconnection strengths between neurons.

The study involved training a network to associate data with given individuals, then observing whether the trained network could successfully identify these people based upon new data. Two sub-datasets were required for each person: One was used to train the network and the other was used to see whether the trained network could transfer its knowledge to new data. Thus, each series of 50 runs was split in half, using the first half as the training set and the second half as the transfer set. Results showed that these networks were able to learn to associate data with 32 different individuals, then, in statistical terms, successfully transfer that knowledge to new data.

PK Placement Studies

A number of researchers have conducted studies designed to determine whether naked human intention could affect the movement of moving objects. The most recent version of this approach is the database of studies using a random mechanical cascade at Princeton University's Engineering Anomalies Research program.

The experimental apparatus allows 9000 polystyrene balls to drop through a matrix of 330 pegs, scattering into 19 collecting bins. As the balls enter the bins, exact counts are accumulated photoelectrically, displayed as feedback for the operator and recorded by a computer. Subjects are asked to concentrate on shifting the mean of the developing distribution of balls to the right or left, relative to a concurrently developing baseline distribution. Over three thousand experimental runs have been conducted with twenty-five individuals. The results are significantly beyond chance expectation.

The Princeton University researchers note that virtually all of the statistically significant results have come from a deviation of the balls to the left of the baseline. This, they claim, cannot be attributed to any known physical asymmetry in the system.

Chinese Reports of Psychokinesis Associated with ESP

Reports of psi research in China claim that certain subjects showed consistent success in ESP tests.,, A report from the Chinese Academy of Sciences states that if the ESP response was incorrect there was no change at the target; but that, in over 700 trials when the ESP response was correct, there was always an accompanying PK effect at the target location. These effects included clouding of X-ray or photographic film; or pronounced changes in the records of photoelectric tubes, thermoluminescence docimeters, or biological detectors. It should be noted, however, that the quality and reliability of reports of Chinese research is very inconsistent. At least one set of knowledgable observers believes that some reported results resulted from slight-of-hand.

Scott Hubbard, Edwin May and Harold Puthoff at SRI International in Menlo Park, California, searched for such changes using a detector that the Chinese had found most sensitive -- a photomultiplier tube. ESP targets were slides of scenes from the National Geographic. There were four subjects with six sessions each. The pooled sessions showed significant ESP success. The researchers then correlated ESP scores with four measures of photomultiplier output: low-amplitude increase and decrease and high-amplitude increase and decrease in number of pulses. One correlation was significant: the correlation with increase in the number of high-amplitude pulses, as the Chinese had reported.

PK Metal-Bending

A renewed interest has recently developed in large-scale (macro) PK effects, particularly metal-bending. The most extensive research on metal-bending has been conducted by physicist John Hasted at the University of London's Birkbeck College.

John Hasted

His subjects were mostly adolescents who had developed an interest in metal-bending upon exposure to the public performances of Uri Geller. They were asked to bend or deform latchkeys or bars of aluminum alloy without touching them. The specimens were attached to resistive strain guages or (in later work) piezoelectric sensors. Signals from these devices were then amplified and registered on chart recorders.

Actual bending was observed in only a minority of sessions, however anomalous signals frequently appeared on the chart records -- from sensors separated up to several feet from each other. This led Hasted to hypothesize an unknown form of conduction of electrical charge from the subjects' bodies through the atmosphere to the sensors.

Hasted claimed that the subjects had no opportunity to interact directly with the chart recorder. Furthermore, he employed dummy loads along with electrical shielding of the test channels to minimize global electrical artifacts.

Psi researchers have been rather reluctant to accept Hasted's findings. In part, this is because macro-pk effects remain very controversial. In part, as enumerated by psi researcher John Palmer, it is because Hasted's research procedures would benefit from additional refinements:

Even if one grants the paranormal origins of the signals, Hasted's methodology makes it difficult to draw valid conclusions about their nature, including whether or not they truly represent strain. Use of an inadequately fast chart recorder, failure to adopt proper principles of experimental design, and failure to use statistical analyses are the most serious problems. In particular, it is impossible to distinguish basic physical characteristics of the phenomena from those correlated with preferences, attitudes, etc., of the subject or experimenter.

In general, "non-touching" is considered an essential prerequisite control for a variety of possible conventional influences in PK metal-bending research. However, some studies were conducted which allowed touching of the target specimens and, yet, still merit some scientific consideration.
One test used by Hasted employed a brittle alloy bar that supposedly could not be bent to a particular angle of deformation in less than a certain known time.

Brittle alloy bars bent in Hasted's experiment

When excessive force was applied it simply broke. The only way to bend it is to apply a small force slowly over time, which produces bend by a process known as creep. Hasted has reported bending of such alloys in well under the minimum time thought to be possible using a creep process.

Charles Crussard and J. Bouvaist, two French metallurgists whose research was funded by a metals company, took the following experimental measures in PK studies with a magical performer, Jean-Paul Girard:

(1) All dimensions of metal strips or rods were measured before and after bending; (2) The microhardness of the metal was measured at several points before and after bending; (3) Residual strain profiles (measures of crystalline stucture) were examined; (4) Electron micrograph analyses of the fine structure of ultrathin foil specimins were often made; (5) Analyses of the chemical composition at various places along the strip or rod were made. Additional precautions included consultations with magicians, video recording of trials, and the marking of test specimens.

Crussard and Bouvaist described eight of 20 trials conducted with Girard. The specimens were bars of aluminum alloys, stainless steel cylinders, and Duralumin plates. During the trials, Girard was allowed to touch and hold the specimens, while at all times being observed by the experimenters. Bending was observed in four of the specimens. Structural changes inconsistent with physical bending were found for a stainless steel cylinder and Duralumin plate.

Since Girard is a conjurer, researchers are cautious in interpreting the above results. In his 1985 evaluation for the U.S. Army, psi researcher John Palmer reached the following conclusion with regard to this report:

Only in the case of the bending of one of the aluminum bars do the controls as reported seem to completely rule out the possibility of Girard substituting previously deformed specimens for the test specimens. Nonetheless, the assumptions that must be made to explain away these results seem rather farfetched.

Bio-PK

A number of studies are suggestive of the possibility that conscious intention can influence the growth and movement of biological targets. One of the first of these involved the one-celled protozoan, paramecium. The organism was centered under the cross hairs of a microscope, and it moved with significant frequency into the randomly selected quadrant of the field. Water fleas observed under a microscope turned in the randomly selected direction, i.e., either right or left, with greater frequency than these crustaceans turned in the opposite direction. Significant results were also obtained in mentally directing ants to carry away matches on the selected side of a wooden slide. Carroll B. Nash conducted an experiment in which bacterial growth was psychokinetically accelerated and retarded according to the intentions of randomly selected college students.

Carroll B. Nash

In two separate studies, the growth of fungus was less when an attempt was made to mentally retard it than was the growth in the controls., Physicist Elizabeth Rauscher conducted a study with biochemist Beverly Rubik in which bacteria exposed to an antibiotic grew more rapidly in a sealed tube surrounded, but not touched, by the hands of psychic healer Olga Worrall than in tubes not treated by her.

Beverly Rubik

Elizabeth Rauscher

(Further experimental work in the area of healing is reported in the section on potential applications of psi.)

In a study following up on his earlier finding correlating students' intentions with bacterial growth, Carroll B. Nash conducted another study looking at mutation rates. He put suspensions of E. coli into nine tubes, in a 3x3 arrangement, for each of 52 subjects. He randomly designated one set for rapid mutation into another strain, one set for inhibition of mutation rate, and one set for control. He arranged that the subjects would know the instructions but the student experimenters would be blind. The rapid mutation tubes showed significantly more growth than the inhibition tubes. The promotion tubes had nonsignificantly more growth than the controls; the inhibition tubes had significantly less.

In a computer automated study, Charles Pleass and N. Dean Dey, at the University of Delaware, tried to have subjects use PK to speed or to slow the swimming of algae. They measured swimming speed by the Doppler effect of laser light, which does not affect algae adversely. Each experimental run was preceded by a control run. A run consisted of the collection of 1,000 data points and ordinarily took thirty seconds. Each subject participated in ten runs. Data analysis showed differences in speed, in the anticipated direction, between scores for PK and control runs, and also indicated changes with the subject's mood and with differences in the instructions.

Tree Sitters Occupying Coal River Mountain

Tree Sitters Occupying Coal River Mountain

It’s ON! This is how 2010 begins in the Coal River Valley, with a non-violent bang not a whimper.

treesit1 (1)

After almost a year of sustained direct actions in southern West Virginia, three Climate Ground Zero activists scaled trees to stop blasting on Coal River Mountain. David Aaron Smith, 23, Amber Nitchman, 19 and Eric Blevins, 28 are on platforms approximately 60 feet up three tulip poplar trees. They are located next to where Massey Energy is blasting to build an access road to the Brushy Fork Impoundment on its Bee Tree Strip Mine. Their banners read: “EPA Stop the Blasting,” and “Windmills Not Toxic Spills.”

In the past two weeks, mountaintop removal coal mining has thrust itself into the national consciousness with an article in the prestigious science journal Science calling for a ban on mountaintop removal, a feature on the popular comedy show The Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert and tonight’s debate between Massey CEO Don Blankenship and environmental attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at the University of Charleston. Never before has MTR received such scrutiny.

Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved a MTR permit in West Virginia signaling the weakening of their position on the issue. EPA inaction for decades has left over 500 mountains in Appalachia barren moonscape, poisoned numerous communities and profiting mining execs throughout the region. Obama’s EPA had promised to act on MTR, but has yet to take any significant steps to outlaw the practice. Likewise, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson had failed to even visit the region or do a flyover of affected areas.

The tree sitters are committed to staying until the blasting ends on Coal River Mountain.

Currently, a winter action camp is underway at Climate Ground Zero in Rock Creek, WV and more actions are expected throughout 2010. It’s going to be a kick ass year.

Tree Sit on Coal River Mountain Strip Mine

“Coal River Mountain was the last mountain around here that hasn’t been touched and they could’ve been using it for windmills…But Massey wants to get that coal. It seems like they just don’t care about the populace. Just the land and their checkbook.”

- Richard Bradford

MARFORK, W.Va. – Protestors associated with Climate Ground Zero and Mountain Justice halted blasting on Coal River Mountain today with a three-person tree-sit. David Aaron Smith, 23, Amber Nitchman, 19 and Eric Blevins, 28 are on platforms approximately 60 feet up two tulip poplars and an oak tree. The mountain has become a rallying point for local activists, representing for many the cleaner, more sustainable possibilities of wind energy. Their banners state: “EPA Stop the Blasting”, “Windmills Not Toxic Spills”, and “Save Coal River Mtn.”

The sitters are calling for the EPA to protect American air and water by putting an end to mountaintop removal and encouraging the development of clean energy production in central Appalachia. The lack of EPA enforcement combined with Dr. Margaret Palmer’s findings, published in Science Magazine’s January issue, that “Considering environmental impacts of MTM/VF[mountaintop mining/valley fill], in combination with evidence that the health of people living in surface-mining regions of the central Appalachians is compromised by mining activities, we conclude that MTM/VF permits should not be granted,”

encouraged Joshua Graupera, a member of the support team, to take part in this action. He said, “I knew that until I took an active role in the struggle to end MTR, I was passively condoning the poisoning and displacement of countless communities.”

Massey Energy’s blasting on the Bee Tree Strip Mine threatens both the possibility of wind power on Coal River Mountain and the foundations of the nearby Brushy Fork impoundment. “The government has given them [Massey Energy] permission to blast next to a dam full of toxic coal waste that will kill 998 people if it fails,” said Blevins, who works with Mountain Justice. The Brushy Fork Impoundment, permitted to contain over nine billion gallons of toxic coal waste, lies on a honeycomb of abandoned deep mines. If the foundation collapses the coal slurry will blow out from all sides of Coal River Mountain, harming communities in the mountain’s periphery, as occurred at Massey’s Big Branch slurry impoundment in Kentucky.

“Brushy Fork sludge dam places the downstream communities in imminent danger. The threat of being inundated by a wall of toxic sludge is always present. Blasting next to this dam increases the risk as well as destroying the opportunity for renewable wind energy,” said Coal River Mountain Watch’s Vernon Haltom. According to the Coal River Wind Project the wind energy produced by a turbine farm on Coal River Mountain could power 70,000 homes, provide permanent jobs for local residents and annually bring over a million more dollars in tax revenue to Raleigh County than coal currently does.

The sitters plan to remain in the trees as long as it takes to stop blasting on Coal River Mountain. Climate Ground Zero’s action campaign, begun in February of last year, has kept up a sustained series of direct actions since that time, continuing the decades-long resistance of dedicated individuals and groups like Mountain Justice to strip mining in Appalachia.

West Papua an Occupied Nation for 45 Years

West Papua an Occupied Nation for 45 Years

A widely ignored region cries out for recognition

http://freewestpapua.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/picture-11.png

West Papuans celebrated today (January 8th) what is long held to be West Papua's Independence Day despite Indonesian dictatorship and suppression of West Papuan culture.

The event, celebrated around the world and in the country, counted with the support of the Free West Papua movement in London and the support of International Parlamentarians for West Papua, first established in 2008 and International Lawyers for West Papua. In London, the symbolic launch of the book "An Act of Free Choice - Decolonisation and the Right to Self Determination in West Papua" by P.J. Drooglever, marked the day, with talks at no1 Parliament Street, culminating in MP Andrew Smith alongside West Papuan Chief Benny Wenda delivering the book to the Foreign CommonWealth Office, in a gesture to "educate the UK Government and the world" of the situation in West Papua.

A demonstration in front of the Indonesian Embassy in London also took place as well as letter which was delivered by hand by West Papuan Chief Benny Wenda and wife Maria, despite Indonesian Embassy officials refusing to personally receive the letter. Drooglever's book deals with a 1969 act which was presented by Indonesian military and is largely regarded as a whitewash with a claim that West Papuans had chosen Indonesian rule rather than independence.

For this effect, the Indonesian government had selected a little over 1000 Melanesian men as West Papuan representatives, around 0.9% of the population, to make the claim. Although the UN General Assembly Resolution 2504 recognised that there was indeed an event under the denomination of Act of Free Choice, it was not recognised as an act of self-determination. There were severe doubts about the entire process and the men who were selected also claimed that they were blackmailed into signing up for the act.

Ever since, the small yet naturally rich country has endured 45 years of a bitter independence struggle under Indonesian rule and great number of human rights abuses and genocide have been reported but the media blackout imposed by Indonesian rule as made the situation largely unnoticed to the outside world. Reports of genocide, rape and disappearances by Indonesian military as well as suppression of West Papuan culture and national identity are nowadays frequent and more widespread as exiled Chief Benny Wenda and the worldwide Free West Papua movement alongside the International Parlamentarians for West Papua initiative have ensured that such reports have global reach.

An exposing documentary, Forgotten Bird of Paradise * by British film maker Dominic Brown, the first foreign national to have gone undercover into West Papua and to have spent time with the country's independence fighters, is now available. The revealing piece exposes the extent of human rights abuses and the extent of West Papua's struggle for independence.

New Illuminati comments: Since the effective annexation of western New Guinea by Indonesia almost half a century ago at least 100,000 Papuan people have been killed; this is likely to be a gross underestimate. This mineral and timber rich ‘province’ of the Indonesian hegemony is beset by corporate interests as well as the colonial designs of nearby countries, including (until the 1970s) Australia.
The Indonesian transmigration program – in which Javanese settlers have been moved into West Papua and other ‘underdeveloped’ regions in droves for many decades – has altered the local mix dramatically. Division and resentment has smouldered for decades, along with sporadic, asymmetrical and unreported actions, including clashes along the New Guinea border.
It’s high time the West Papuan peoples’ voices were recognised and heard.

Infiltrated Intelligence: Roots and Routes of Global Corruption

Infiltrated Intelligence

Roots and Routes of Global Corruption

http://songbox.co.nz/tlc.nsf/the_great_seal.gif

How can these rivalrous tribes of humankind survive on a finite globe while peace and so-called ‘security’ remain elusive goals? We remain a divided and self-conquered people only as long as nations and nationalities continue to hunker behind illusory borders. Meanwhile, citizens cling to stultifying illusions of independence, separation and control behind divisively protective urban walls and children aren’t allowed to play in streets and parks without constant ‘supervision’.

There is no political solution to this sundered and split bicameral paradigm. A choice of skulduggery-riddled cowboy Bonesmen or industrious Trilateralites represents the predecided tweedle-choice facing poor purblind Amerika. How can either of these enclaves of one-eyed kings and control freak potentates represent the people when they all inhabit seclusive and rarefied realms of the rich?

How can either party of partying moguls, front men and flunkies even be regarded as the lesser of two evils? Can such a notion exist in reality, when left and right hands both serve the same hidden puppet masters who secretly steer the ships of state toward preordained fates? Today’s ‘representative’ democracy is nothing more than a sham; business as usual.

The structures of governments, intelligence agencies, corporations, terrorists and military complexes all share a fatal flaw that leaves them ripe for exploitation and infiltration by hidden individuals and groups. In bygone times an identical vulnerability within monarchic courts, secret societies and lodges and all other secretive groups rendered them just as helplessly prone to exploitation by outside forces as today’s important potentates.

The rigid hierarchical structure of all these power- and control-oriented organisations has created an inherent ongoing dilemma since the time of the pyramid builders. As the visionary duo Robert Anton Wilson and Timothy Leary pointed out last century, the top-down orientation of pyramidally ordered societies and groups creates logjams in the supply of information – blind spots and choke points that ultimately make the intricate systems that sustain them unworkable.

Paranoia and insecurity prevail whenever rulers conspire to prevent ‘their’ people from knowing what they’re plotting, and corruption-prone governments thrive on secrecy and obscurement at all levels. In any class-ridden society those on the bottom of the heap will always have good reasons for hiding unpalatable facts and truths from hopelessly beurocratic or simply ruthless masters. Everyone lies to everyone else all the time in order to keep their place in the pecking order, or to climb the ladder of aspiration.

Expansionary societies and militant empires tend to develop long chains of command and inordinately long supply lines to feed their bloating carcasses and are soon left vulnerable to internal disruption and unmanageable chaos. Universal surveillance and secret police are common reflexive responses to apparent disorder by those who fear their own people (and the long-suppressed urgings of their own freely willed inner selves). But the more fearful control-oriented rulers become and the more surveillance they put in place, the swifter the loss of communication, command and control. No matter the level of technology, the human element cannot be eliminated from the equation; not without eliminating all of humankind.

 http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/Uploads/Graphics/090-0722135321-roundtable-Chart.jpg

Real peace and security can only arrive through openness. You can only tell if someone’s cheating when all the cards are on the table. An Orwellian society would be almost acceptable if everyone could watch the watcher. No citizen (or netizen) should be expected to accept the draconian surveillance of their phone calls, emails, medical or other private details, or financial records - or accept constant surveillance by cameras, microphones and deadly aerial drones – unless their governments become totally open and their dealings are seen to be above board. From the place where we currently stand, total freedom of information is the only easy route to a just and free world.

A fair and honest surveillance society can only exist when governments and other groups are required to give up their right to hold secrets from those they supposedly serve. Corruption, nepotism, cronyism and conspiracy are rife in today’s secretive world of successfully bribed politicians and their fat controllers (often the front-man potentate’s spouse or close relative).

These hardboiled time servers are no different from most other harried and time-destitute wage serfs - who all servilely serve the ruthless militant industrious complex that sucks the planet dry, in exchange for a bankroll of worthless and transient potage. All wages in a hive-minded society of wage serfs are payments for prostitution of the soul. The desire for money (and similar illusory security blankets) is the route to all evil.

Humankind is struggling upward from its knees, blinded and confused by ancient wounds and forgotten amnesias. We still live in dark ages, but are hovering on the brink of unprecedented transformation. Whether we arise into transfiguring awareness and illumination or sink into even deeper darknesses of abyssal ignorance is an essential and ongoing choice for each and every one of us.

Paranoia is the Price of Eternal Vigilance

All rigidly hierarchical systems inevitably bog down, unable to cope with the loss of accurately transmitted information and knowledge and concomitant ills; in their usual irreverent style, Wilson and Leary dubbed this situation ‘The Fuckup Principle’.

The secrecy required to maintain the illusion of control rapidly becomes self defeating. The true security of an individual requires eternal inner vigilance - an awareness of one’s thoughts, ideas, ideals, dreams and true motives and motivations. The same is true for tribes and nations. Security has nothing to do with weapons or martial arts, which are actually expressions of direst insecurity. Peace and security are identical; they’re found in a conscious state of open awareness and compassionate mindfulness, available to all free of charge at every moment.

Secrecy poisons everything. It creates an entirely different and opposite form of preternaturally eternal vigilance to the open-minded awareness which occasionally gives rise to enlightenment. The oxymoronic military intelligence version of eternal vigilance is a rapid route to madness, as paranoia is the price of eternal vigilance and eternal unnecessary conflict its only result and reward. This may suit warriors, warlords, bankers, weapon makers and industrialists, but it’s very bad news for everyone else.

The true global currency of the planet today – like the substrate of timespace itself – is organised information. But information is not knowledge; nor is it wisdom. The misplaced priorities of war-minded cultures and the ongoing secrecy of their command structures have created overspecialisation and compartmentalisation of knowledge at all levels of modern society. The common flaw of corporations, governments, military groups, intelligence establishments and secret societies is the cellular structure of their hierarchies, in which all useful knowledge is shared only on the shaky basis of a direct ‘need to know’ decided by remote powers on high.

All these groups (including so-called terrorist, mafia and guerrilla organisations) create cellular clusters of agents, each remaining mutually ignorant and essentially expendable. Orders filter down to individual cells from unseen masters who exist above or beyond their purview. Very little information or power is held in the hands of any one cell, so if one group or cluster is removed the loss to the whole organisation is usually negligible. This creates a situation where the predatory topmost and underprivileged bottom-feeding levels of human social strata are mutually blinded, while the left hand (or wing) can’t ever know what the right is doing, and vice versa; humankind is thus easily transformed into a graceless punch-drunk clown stumbling through an eternal night of lies and mistrust.

The real problem is far more insidious than the persistence of these simple top-down primate pack structures, which are all predicated on habits born of long psychobiological precedent. Their self-blinding cellular structure means all these power-oriented groups can easily be taken over by any individuals or conclaves who successfully pose as the inherently unknowable ‘powers above’. Like viruses invading a living cell, hidden agendas can easily circumvent the command structures of groups that operate in a secretive fashion. The age-old imperial urge to ‘divide and conquer’ is crazily simple when the cells of an organism are already so divided they can’t communicate with each other or call for help from a higher authority or central command.

The secret lodges of the last Enlightenment – who created prototypes for today’s intelligence agencies, replete with hierarchical grades, code words and symbols, binding oaths and lifetime fealty to the current cause – used secretive hierarchical structures to subvert and replace the monarchies of yesteryear, which transformed into the corporatised robber baronies of today. This was hardly their intention, but the cellular structures of lodges, unions and guilds were often infiltrated and their agendas overridden by outsiders posing as the hidden ‘secret masters’ of these necessarily secretive groups.

Today we have an identical situation with many terrorist and freedom-fighting organisations. It’s common knowledge that peacenik antiwar groups, schismatic cults, labour organisations and most ‘alternative; enclaves were routinely infiltrated by police and intelligence agents in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. Their members were often turned toward self-defeating policies or stupidly self destructive acts by these infiltrators, in order to break up the groups and have their troublesome (but usually mostly harmless) members locked away or killed. The same occurs today all the time within many or most terrorist and espionage cells - who do much of the dirty work of intelligence agencies, usually without being aware of the fact.

photo

When it comes to government funding of intelligence groups and other insecurity forces, failure is more lucrative than success. Thus the Waco and WTC bombings, the London ‘7/7’ train ‘bombing exercises’, the now ancient Sydney Hilton Hotel bombing and the Indonesian nightlife and hotel bombings all provided excellent excuses to massively increase funding of the intelligence groups who were really responsible for creating these state-sponsored terror attacks. The draconian laws that followed in the wakes of these man-made disasters gave these groups – and their hidden masters – unprecedented powers of surveillance and control.

Today’s intelligence agencies, military organisations, corporations, governments and other secretive groups have all been infiltrated and taken over by outside elements, including, of course, each other. Yet the hidden hands of unseen fat controllers overrule and override all their processes and agendas. Some of these groups have an inkling of what’s really going on but are so constrained by their structures they have no way of dealing with their worst nightmare; not just an enemy within, but one who’s so far on top of things they’re completely invisible.

Higher consciousness is just that – higher; interpret this statement however you will as you read this 1973 formulation distilled by Timothy Leary while he quietly rotted in Folsom Prison:

‘Secrecy is the enemy of sanity and loving trust. If you keep secrets, you are an insane paranoiac. Concealment is the seed source of every human conflict. Secrecy is always caused by guilt or fear…

Let’s break out of the huddle. Before J. Edgar Hoover there were no secret police in [the USA]. Before World War II there was no C.I.A. and America was amazingly unconcerned with secrecy. The hidden sickness has become lethally endemic…
Now comes the electronic revolution. Reveal-ation. Bugging equipment effective at long distances is inexpensive and easily available. Good. Liberals want stiff laws against bugging. It’s the wrong move. Legalise everything. Legalise bugging. Let’s forget artificial secrets and concentrate on the mysteries.

I can tell you bugging is nothing to worry about. I’ve been tapped, surveilled, tailed for ten years. In Algeria [where Leary was illegally kidnapped by the CIA and returned to the Amerikan penal system] everyone knew of at least three taps on international calls – Algerian, French and C.I.A. The Algerians knew every move we made. That’s why they liked us. I was called in once by the Swiss Secret Service about some threats on my life. They offered me body guards. I looked at the chief agent and laughed. “Moi! Merci, non.” The agent laughed with me. “Professor, the Swiss police never sleep. We watch over you twenty-four hours a day.” Any true intimate secrets are preserved in the tender codes of love. Privacy is woven with electronic threads of contact that cannot be INTERCEPTED. Love has nothing to hide.

Secrecy is the original sin. Fig leaf in the Garden of Eden. The basic crimes against love. The issue is fundamental… The purpose of life is to receive, synthesise, and transmit energy.

Communication fusion is the goal of life. Any star can tell you that. Communication is love. Secrecy, withholding the signal, hoarding, hiding, covering up the light is motivated by shame and fear, symptoms of the inability to love. Secrecy means that you think love is shameful and bad. Or that your nakedness is ugly. Or that you hide unloving, hostile feelings. Seeds of paranoia and distrust.

Those who love have no need to hide their actions. As so often happens, the extreme wing is half right for the wrong reasons. They say primly; if you have done nothing wrong, you have no fear of being bugged. Exactly. But the logic goes both ways. Then F.B.I. files, and C.I.A. dossiers, and White House conversations should be open to all. Let every thing hang open. Let government be totally visible. The last, the very last people to hide their actions should be the police and government.

We operate on the assumption that everyone knows everything anyway. There is nothing and no way to hide. This is the acid message. We’re all on cosmic T.V. every moment. We all play starring roles in the galactic broadcast: This Is Your Life. I remember the early days of neurological uncovering, desperately wondering where I could go to escape. Run home, hide under the bed, in the closet, in the bathroom? No way. The relentless camera “I” follows me everywhere. We can only keep secrets from ourselves…

I laugh at government bugging. Let the poor, deprived, bored creatures listen to our conversations, tape our laughter, study our transmissions. Maybe it will turn them on. Perhaps they’ll get the message our love-shine transmits: there is nothing to fear.’*

The Route to Freedom

All the various instances of control-freak behaviour and the insidious takeover of the body politic by external forces are refracted reflections of a more primal form of possession – and possessiveness - which afflicts almost all of humankind. As Siddhartha Buddha put it, attachment is the source of all suffering.

If life and living become boringly repetitive, automatic and routine, then truth and meaning are easily snuffed out and buried by mediocrity and tedium. Self awareness diminishes like a fading light bulb unless it’s constantly recharged by meditative attention.

The divisive concepts of ‘us’ and ‘them’ can only be ruthlessly exploited as long as they remain unexamined and unrecognised false truisms that have somehow lodged (or been lodged) in our receptive and fundamentally innocent minds. Along with feudalistic, racist, faction-riddled twaddle and other all the other fearful baggage of humankind’s woebegotten past, the need for secrecy, hierarchies, belligerent nations and the laughable ‘need to know’ can only persist if we fail to recognise their roots in our secret selves.

Our minds and actions are ridden by forces and presences we’ve been carefully trained to fail to perceive. We are each much greater and more powerful than we know. All knowledge and information is freely available to an open and inquiring mind. We are not simply meat machines in a deadly one-way processing facility, but self-blinded, self-wounded and dumbed-down beings inextricably linked to greater realities; we’re all imbued with vast potentialities and capable of apparent miracles. We perform many every day.

Unexamined questions abound. Where do you go when you sleep? Who are you, really? Why did you decide to be born here and now? Why do you live the way you do, where you do? What drives you?
The universe is holographic in structure and nothing can ever be successfully hidden for long. Everything is accessible to everyone, if they only know it – an excellent excuse for unreasoning rulers to keep everyone as dumbed-down, subservient and insecure as possible. The presence of truth or a lie is easily discerned by an innocent child, and this faculty remains available to all who choose to serve no other master but truth.

Let children play where they will and roam free. That’s what the world’s for.

P.S. – From ‘How We Lost the Fear of Terror’ by Daniel Flitton -
‘…people become understandably suspicious of claims about hidden threats used to justify huge government spending and restrictive laws. Since 2001 ASIO has more then trebled in size, alongside enormous growth in counter-terrorism branches of the Australian Federal Police. A parallel growth has taken place in private sector - the proliferation of ''terrorism experts'' to offer advice and public comment. Careers have been built on the back of the effort to confront terrorism, careers that would be themselves under threat if the problem diminishes…
“…[CIA-trained Osama] bin Laden continues to evade capture. The US Defence Secretary, Robert Gates, recently admitted no reliable intelligence on bin Laden's location had been gathered in years.
Americans are not generally optimistic the terrorist mastermind will be found, according to polls. Asked earlier to rate how likely it is that US forces will capture or kill bin Laden, a majority said it was ''not too likely'' or ''not at all likely''.
Only 11 per cent of people saw as ''very likely'' the prospect of bin Laden in chains or in a coffin at the hands of the US (3 per cent claim he is already dead).
Does it matter? Would killing bin Laden end the terrorist threat? Analysts doubt it. His mystique is already well entrenched and his influence on day-to-day planning minimal. Bin Laden's role is as a strategic guide to his followers.
This year he [purportedly] released a ''statement to the American people'' to coincide with the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
''If you stop the war, then so be it. But otherwise, it is inevitable that we will continue our war of extermination against you on all possible fronts,'' he said.
''So, go ahead and prolong this war as long as you want, but you are engaged in a miserable losing war for the interests of others that seems to have no end in sight.'' ’
