Do We Agree? New World Ordure or Evolution

Do We Agree?

New World Ordure or Evolution

The planet is girdled by our great established and emergent nations whose identities and actions are defined by their childhood beliefs, just as an individual personality is molded by internalised ancient patterns while they are shaped by the outer world.

Most of these beliefs arise from utopian and apocalyptic ancestral memories stored in meme banks of codified writings, existing alongside the innate cryptic rending of recollections transmitted in our ‘genes’. Some are entirely fanciful and fraudulent, though even these carry kernels of wisdom and truth amid their dross, to tempt people into swallowing the poisonous theological trappings they come wrapped in.

Nation states attempt to achieve a stasis where all is controllable by the hidden and overt puppet-masters that pull the strings from the crown of the family trees in all local areas, tribes and countries. They allow only those evolutionary forces that resemble their own will and personality to emerge - revolutionary abrupt change is anathema to them, even change for the better.

These shadowy manipulators are ancestral filters designed to impede transformation of the human species.Under this dominant, ancient feudal paradigm, changes are always superficial; the clothes, music and styles shift around the clotheshorse of conventional consciousness and we mistake the shifting, hypnotic kaleidoscope for progress. The distraction stops real evolution and transmutation from occurring as it distracts us from the fundamental realities and mysteries of our own unique, never-to-be-repeated lives and our own unrecognised extraordinary talents that are usually suffocated aborning in childhood.

What Did Our Grandparents Know?

The new emerging democratic notion of the Third Millennium is a paradigm shift from the hierarchical so-called ‘representational’ democracy that has swept the globe in the last half century. Very few nations have actually embraced the notion for more than a single human generation and we forget how fast and in many cases superficial the changes have been.

Now our intermingling genes and memes make our old hidebound self-identities redundant and dangerously prehensile, crippling our awareness and potential in this time of revolutionary transformation. Chaos is unfolding around us with its own emergent implicate order calling the tune to which we must all dance, and learn the new steps quickly.

Fortunately, much of our way forward has been largely mapped out for us and exists in a readily available form. There is so much that the people of Earth already agree on, if we care to take a look. Most of the potential sources of conflict between individuals and states can be easily sidestepped if we’re aware of what we’ve already come to decide through a long historical process of painfully learned and remembered lessons.

Whomever they can or can’t vote for, almost all peoples on Earth are protected by an overarching Universal Bill of Rights that their governments have signed and ratified, documents that have defined much of world political and social change for decades - but hardly anyone has noticed. It’s very easy to blame the last few ignorant generations for the fix we find ourselves in, socially, politically and environmentally. It’s hard to see that most of the inroads in women’s rights, equal pay, fair working conditions, the right to legal representation, universal education, the right to vote freely – I could go on, and it would read like a shopping list for a trip to utopia - has arisen from this worldwide agreement undertaken by our parents and grandparents on our behalf. Can we do better?

See for yourself – the International Bill of Rights. Do you see anything you disagree with?[*]

It’s been in the interests of local partying governments to let us think the vast raft of social changes enacted in law over the last half century have come from their own largesse - not from enforceable international treaty obligations – so we think the dynastic self-serving power-mongers we vote for are nice people or in some way in control, able to protect us from change.  It’s us – warm-blooded individuals and societies acting in our own enlightened self-interest - that have made these truly progressive changes possible and people like us that have fought and worked to make these changes actually happen.

Our ancestors have done the best they could, learning as they went along – the same as us. Leadership is a sham; all great, honest leaders are followers of the true public will, spokepeople for the tribe who act for the betterment of all. The rest are control freaks who pay attention to polls, politics and the public only to stay in power – the ones we all know too well. It’s time to learn something new and create something better, more fruitful and fairer. There’s never been a better time and the window of opportunity is closing, along with our easiest options.

Control is another illusion that’s fast growing transparent as we all begin to wise up a little more. The smiling, fashionably fascist faces on our screens can’t hide the empty-bellied, gap-toothed reality facing not only our grandchildren but ourselves, in our own lifetimes. You know it’s true. We’re all on the Titanic and no sky fairy, god or spaceman is going to come and save us – except perhaps via inspiration and information. It’s up to us.

All of us who realise what’s happening must act now, together in playfully intent groups and separately in our own lives, to use only the best within us and in our cultures and discard or recycle the rest into something pleasant and useful. There’s not much room for passengers or officers on this iceberg-bound collossus, and there aren’t enough lifeboats. What we need is more crew now if we’re to change course in time - more people who change their own lives and actively regenerate as much of the planet as they can while stopping the worst of the ongoing industrial destruction – anything is still possible if we stop watching the screen and do what we know we’re capable of. We don’t need money to do what’s needed; all you need to invest is all you really are; time and energy.

There are plenty of others in the same position and real change emerges when we get together, creating the new reality together, come what may. Here’s no need to destroy anything or even attempt to reform much of the old, antiquated social plumbing from within. If you have a vast distributed network of friends working and playing together the old destructive systems and notions will wither on the vine – when we stop nourishing them with our blood, sweat, tears and time. We’ve all heard the prophecies of doom and can see the warning signs - that it’s time to step out of familiar, unsafe, humdrum existences that only feed the destruction and slip into full, sensuous, natural life. All we have to do is take the chance and follow the dreams that lead to hope – the rest follows.

Non-Local Notions

Humans live well and have the happiest lives in socially cohesive groups of no more than two to five dozen. Our nomadic ancestors rarely had the need or will to develop social groups of more than a dozen, except on regular festive occasions. Our true friends are rarely counted on more than the fingers of one hand – time and temporal constraints make having more than two handfuls of real friends very unlikely, no matter how many friendly people we know or love.

To change course and survive our monolithic march toward catastrophe, we have to open our eyes to the blind habits of feudalism’s inherently unfair vestiges - that still rule and direct so many of our thoughts, our time and lives - and imagine how it could all be better. A new vision is easy to attain; it merely requires disillusionment - losing our attachment to illusions that beset us in the names of god and country, caste and class, racism and patriotism - and religion’s false and contradictory dogmas that are the actual genesis of most unnecessary guilt, discontent and wars. To blindly continue to follow anyone who represents these archaic concepts is to sacrifice your future and freedom, imagining safety is possible under the sheltering roof of gangsters and mass murderers. That’s what most static heads of state and proselytisers of fabulous regional lies all too easily become when options narrow.

Your soul is bigger than that – it understands the Golden Rule and knows that nothing more is needed than compassion and clarity. Some truths are always self-evident.We need to create nothing less than paradise on earth and must settle for nothing less. Paradise can’t be paradise unless it’s paradise for all who live here. We can all be more sensitive, responsive and creative beings, whatever the lives we’ve lived until this moment. There is no ‘original sin’ except the foisting of such a concept down the throats of innocent babes and ‘human nature’ is nothing more or less than those particular patterns within all of nature itself that we have chosen to learn and to copy.

There are a myriad of choices and possibilities available to us in the subtle rainbow of nature’s pallet and we can take our pick. It’s almost all we do as a monkey see, monkey do species – ape our contemporaries. All our inventive technology is just a stumbling crawl toward understanding nature’s tricks and she still has far more to teach us about ourselves and the multiverse. And we have lots to learn from each other, too.We all have to be smart, wise, compassionate, gentle and sensitive little primates if we’re going to get to the next level or even get to stay on this one. You have to be everything you can, not just some perfunctory living job description with a redundant speciality. You have to do everything you know you’re good at and capable of to transform yourself enough to save your own life and world. That’s all it takes, but you get to relax – it’s part of the cure.

The only real questions for you to consider as you sit there right now reading this little diatribe from the days of future past is – when?  andwhy not now?Life is happening now.

There are kindred spirits all around. You’ll find them if you look for them and you really need each other, so link up. The road to the future’s paved with redundant religions and yesterday’s prophecies and destiny’s horizon only appears fixed because it always moves with you. Anything is possible. What do you actually need?In the vast little costume drama of human existence in the cosmos, let’s take on our self-appointed leading role and act out the part of the prime mates of Gaia, wise and happy custodians of this blue-green multifaceted gem who know how to really have a ball now that we’re all grown up. If you can’t remember the lines, don’t worry – there aren’t any. Besides, there aren’t any other options but a creative paradise or the same old crap – only worse. Which do you prefer?

The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight

The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight

An Excerpt – by Thom Hartmann

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4142/4760574314_bfc332532c_b.jpg

Whatever our worldview, we collect evidence that we’re right… Sigmund Feud [believed] that what our civilization refers to as a “healthy ego” is, in fact, “a shrunken residue” of what we had experienced early in life when the ego experienced a “much more inclusive” and “intimate bond” with the world around it.

[*] Many psychologists say that one result of this “shrinking process” is that the third most common cause of death for Americans between 15 and 27 years of age, According to the National Institutes of Mental Health, is suicide. This shrinking into separateness, this breaking of the intimate bond with the world around us, this separating ourselves into isolated “boxes”, was largely unknown for the first 100,000 years or more of human history. It is still today largely unknown for tribal people around the world, which, among those who have little contact with Younger Culture people, have a suicide rate so low as to often be unmeasurable…

This disconnection from nature has been at the core of ‘civilized’ human experience since the formation of the first such “civilization” seven millennia ago. It was celebrated by Aristotle in his writings on how the universe and natural world were merely collections of simple particles (atoms) that humans could manipulate once they understood them, and refined by Descartes who argued that the entire universe was a giant machine, and this machine-like nature echoed all the way down to the smallest level.

If we could just figure out where the levers and switches were, we could always figure out a way to control the machine. We withdrew from the natural world and created an artificial world around us, in our cities and towns, which is quite alien from that in which we first evolved. As time went by we decided for ourselves that various things were right and wrong with the rest of the planet, and set about organising things “out there” to comply with our needs “in here”.

We placed our planet at the centre of the universe and ourselves at the top of the hierarchy of our world. Our Younger Culture religions and philosophers proclaimed, both explicitly and implicitly, that all of creation is made only for man. Galileo even went so far as to propose that if humans were not present to observe the world, it would cease to exist…

From this story, this view of the world - that our man-made cities are civilized and the natural world is wild and people who live in it are primitive and uncivilized or savages – we have developed a psychology which acknowledges and praises only itself and its own culture and has lost contact with the real physical world and its extraordinary powers and mysteries.

When the early European/American settlers fanned out across the prairies and killed every buffalo they could find, the Native Americans watched in shock and horror at what they considered a senseless act of insanity. How could the settlers take the life of the plains? How could they parcel up the flesh of Mother Earth? How could they be so crazy as to cut down every tree in sight?

The settlers looked at the “Indians” and thought they were crazy to not take and eat all the buffalo they could. How could they have sat on this valuable resource for ten thousand years and not have used it? They had to be savages, uncivilized half-humans who didn’t have the good sense to know how to use nature’s bounty for the good of the human race. For a while, this worked for the conquering “Americans”.

Just as Gilgamesh could cut down the cedars of Lebanon, just as the Greeks could destroy their own forests, just as Americans could strip half their topsoil from the land, the rapid consumption of “out there” to satisfy the needs of us “in here” worked for more than a few generations. No more, as we’re seeing in the “early warning system” of the Third World.

Like a company burning through its startup capital, our consumption of our surroundings seemed to work fine, until it ran out.In our inner cities people are afraid to drive with their doors unlocked or windows down, on our farms where dioxin or PCP-laced waste is spread across food plants as fertilizer, in our hospitals where the primary waste from the manufacture of nuclear weapons (Yttrium) is being promoted as an experimental “cure” for cancers (which are caused in large part by the air and food and drugs of our civilization) – in all these places we see that this world we have created can work only for a very few.

It is the nature of hierarchical, dominator systems to always end up that way.Older Cultures are older because they have survived for tens of thousands of years. In comparison, younger cultures are still an experiment, and every time one has been attempted (Sumeria, Rome, Greece), however great its grandeur, it has self-destructed, while tribes survive thousands of years.Younger Cultures are built on a foundation which is psychologically and spiritually ill; Freud’s “shrunken residue” of the true and historic beauty of human life lived in intimate connection with the natural world. Increasingly, we live in isolation, in “boxes” – and suffer for it.

What it’s like to be in touch with the world again

It’s possible to climb out of the box and get back in touch with the world…

In The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind,[†] Columbia University Professor Julian Jaynes puts forth the concept that in prehistoric times (more than 7,000 to 10,000 years ago) people actually heard the voices of the gods. When they looked out into the natural world, they saw fairies and sprites and spirits and other entities. This was because, Jaynes posits, the two hemispheres of the brain were more fully connected, so that the auditory regions of the left hemisphere were directly connected to the hallucinatory regions of the right hemisphere (Wernicke’s and Broca’s areas) which, in modern people, are normally only active during dreaming or in schizophrenics. Because of this direct connection, Jaynes suggests what we now call hallucinations probably were a common part of the everyday experiences of ancient peoples.

It was the rise of the Mesopotamian city/state empire, Jaynes suggests, and its use of written language which was largely responsible for the breakdown of this connection between the two hemispheres of the brain, causing all of us except the occasional mystic or schizophrenic to lose contact with much of the right hemisphere during normal waking consciousness.Jaynes’ arguments are persuasive, particularly when they draw on historical record and contemporary neurology. If his perspective is accurate, then we would expect that people living today the same way that humans did 10,000 years ago would live in a world alive with spirits and energies and voices. When those people are removed from that world and “civilized” by learning to read and write, they would quickly (in as little as one generation, perhaps within an individual’s life-span) lose contact with that other world.Another view is advanced by Terrence McKenna in Food of the Gods.

[‡] McKenna believes that the reconnection of the bicameral mind in cultures ancient and modern was and is brought about by the ingestion of certain plant substances. Hallucinatory plants are used by numerous cultures to open the doors to the world of the gods, McKenna points out. He even goes so far as to suggest that the rigidity, pain and sterility of modern life is largely the result of our having lost access to those worlds because of the regulation and control of these substances which once grew throughout humanity’s habitat. McKenna proposes that the use of these plants helped catalyze the birth of human consciousness in early primates.

This, in turn, spurred the development of the thinking and mystical brain/mind, and gave the human species the mental power to set about replacing the plants with its own ways of controlling the mystical or divine experience, principally through the force of law promoted by organised religions… Regardless of the techniques or method, there is a consensus among [Jaynes and McKenna] and others that ancient and “modern primitive” people share the ability to see, feel, and hear something which we in modern western society generally do not.

When the Shoshone looked about for food, he listened to what the land told him, the voices of the animals and the plants and the Earth itself. They showed and told him where his day’s meal would be coming from, and also what types of ceremony would be appropriate to thank the world for this gift.

Contrast this with how European kings lived in the Middle Ages, and how the dominator mindset of that era has led us into an ironically unaware pseudo-“Information Age” and, perhaps unwittingly, into what the Australian aborigines call “the great forgetting.”Our minds and our cultures created our situation. There’s great insight in understanding this, and power in realising how much of a role we can play in redefining the future of the planet for ourselves and our children.

Hive Hierarchy or Wise Weavers: Freeing or (con)Trolling the Future

Hive Hierarchy or Wise Weavers
Freeing or (con)Trolling the Future

The continual unfolding of life doesn’t culminate in us. In our present perfect forms we pre-configure many future races and species whose potentials lay dormant within us. Adapted and adaptable, we’re capable of far more than we are or can be aware of. An orca or dolphin is not an easily foreseeable future form of a dog, and a caterpillar cannot even see, let alone comprehend, the reality of a butterfly. Yet each is the same consciousness in different worlds, in different forms suited perfectly to their aerial and fluid realms.

Humanity is a bridge to many futures in many eras and on many worlds. Some of our descendants will be unrecognisable to us. We will fail to recognise some of them as being alive. We live on a planet housing innumerable sentient species and fail to appreciate the simple meaning of sentience. All living things are conscious and all animals have lives, minds, emotions, personalities and destinies of their own. So do plants. If we fail to recognise the reality of a range of sentient beings surrounding us and with which we’re totally interdependent, we have little chance of creatively interacting with forms of life from different worlds.

In most present human cultures cannibalism is seen as abhorrent where once it was the norm. Many future societies will regard eating animals with a similar horror. Many people do today.

It’s an issue of compassion, maturity and destiny.

Native tribes and mammalian groups recognise the interdependence of all things. Their concepts of hierarchy are simple and responsibilities are shared (or specialised in) by all members of the group. The mammalian herd or group instinct allows for a great variety of possiblilites for social organisation, but modern humans have settled on variations of one theme – the pyramidal hierarchy. Like a pyramid money scam, it fosters illusions of equality of opportunity while maintaining a status quo of corruption, nepotism and despotism. Based on outmoded imperial caste systems, the inherent unfairness in today’s plutocracies, kleptocracies and so-called democracies are veiled by a thrall of progress and career opportunities with invisible but definite ceilings. Unless, of course, you inhabit the right genetic strata, where the rich believe they are born and bred to rule.

With all its dynastic accoutrements, the ordered pyramid hierarchy functions to arrest change, to maintain the present state and to impede evolution. It’s the way of the hyper-socialised organism - the insect in a hive, with a hive mind and mores, grafted onto and masquerading as a creative combine of cooperating individual wills.

Though in some places it may ever be thus, the future will be different for most. Better - involving a series of divergent and convergent evolutions in human nature and the human condition, a great, chaotic, unpredictable flowering outgrowth.

photo

The future – for those who wish to keep evolving on Earth – lays dormant in our past and present. It’s a world of wise weavers who consciously and happily enact their essential chosen roles in the web of life. The unified primeval origins of text and textile, texture and context are a template for our future stories, histories, visions, words and weavings – a way of enlightened life suited for intelligent, compassionate mammalian hopes and dreamings.

It is the future of the green man and woman, a world of consciously cooperative beings, not existing in a programmed hierarchical niche but in a globe made up of innumerable interpenetrating circles of people. Wisdom will weave the disparate elements of their diverse cultures together into a worldwide whole, living at a stage of the evolutionary spiral beyond our current comprehension. The new consciousness is being brought to birth by people who expand the sensitivity (and therefore power) available to them if they explore their own minds and awareness and work in harmonised groups of creative individuals. The creative circle has an inherent power to heal or energise our imaginings into manifestation. The whole – and future humanity - is greater than the sum of its parts.

Humans have been damaged for millennia, individually and collectively, and the healing is accelerating at last. We’re recovering from the trauma of ages. We’re beginning to understand that all thought, knowledge and experience is a shared pool that we all sip from. It’s a harbinger of the times to come and the beings we shall become, replacing the self-blinding and mutually mutilating humans at the turn of the third millennium.  Telepathy is real, now, all the time, inadequately suppressed by the vestiges of monarchic dogma and religious superstition. The new being is waking within you, the last of the old and the faltering first of the new.

We’re now aware enough to grasp the heritage and birthright our ancestors lost, forgot or squandered and to step into a new dawn. The future is very much in our hands. We can create global peace and prosperity or we can continue to throw slings and arrows at each other, but we can’t do both. These generations are beginning to understand what’s at stake, globally and individually. We have a future, and whatever we choose to do with it, we – not merely our descendents – will be living in it.

Wake from the isolating illusions of difference and separateness. Hear the thoughts of others in ‘your’ mind and yours in theirs and know you’re not mad, but healing at last. Recognise that all your deepest inspirations and hopes and thoughts are shared by those around you, here, now.

You’re never alone, but all one. You’re here for a reason, embedded in the past, present and future, sharing this world with more than you know or expect.

            Welcome to the Third Millennium.

Universal Soldier

Universal Soldier

Warrior's Way by R. Ayana

He's five foot-two, and he's six feet-four,
He fights with missiles and with spears.
He's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen,
Been a soldier for a thousand years.

He'a a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain,
A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew.
And he knows he shouldn't kill,
And he knows he always will,
Kill you for me my friend and me for you.

And he's fighting for Canada,
He's fighting for France,
He's fighting for the USA,
And he's fighting for the Russians,
And he's fighting for Japan,
And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way.

And he's fighting for Democracy,
He's fighting for the Reds,
He says it's for the peace of all.
He's the one who must decide,
Who's to live and who's to die,
And he never sees the writing on the wall.

But without him,
How would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau?
Without him Caesar would have stood alone,
He's the one who gives his body
As a weapon of the war,
And without him all this killing can't go on.

He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame,
His orders come from far away no more,
They come from here and there and you and me,
And brothers can't you see,
This is not the way we put the end to war.
