Rocks to Rockets

Rocks to Rockets

The solar system gyrates through Timespace, completing a revolution of our spiral galaxy in the time it takes for some short-lived stars to be born and die. We spin round and round, up and down within the narrow window-plane of the Milky Way and it’s inevitable that we bump into things – including other solar systems – from time to time, despite our best efforts at steering.

Imagine if you will that all things are conscious and all material objects are aware after their own fashion – that the Earth, (the person known as Terra, Tya, Gaia, Geb to our ancestors) is a being a lot like yourself. S/he travels along with her teeming, myriad children clinging to her and every now and then someone throws rocks at her.

Sometimes these rocks hit their target and when they do, many of her experimental life forms are killed and recycled. A couple of times everything alive on Earth has been sterilised except for tiny extremophile organisms living in the crust or deep oceans. Many times, almost all life on land has been exterminated and the ocean life decimated. It takes a long time for more complex and interesting organisms (new sensory organs for the Earth) to evolve each time.

Recently, the Great Mother evolved some lifeforms that could more easily withstand the colder times prevalent for the last five million years or so. They’re hairy as well as warm-blooded and are very adaptable, with high metabolic rates. And some are good at picking up rocks, banging them together and throwing them. These are traits she has been developing for a long time. To stop the rocks hitting her she had to develop organ(ism)s that were good at handling rocks.

The apes who were adept at rock throwing soon found that by tying rocks to sticks they could throw them further. They learned how to sharpen rocks by banging them together. These sticks and rocks could make music and transmit messages, too. From these rocks and sticks all human technology developed.

Mentality was important as well. How could the mother encourage these monkeys to evolve in the appropriate direction? How could she make them throw these rocks further?

The monkeys learned to hate one another - and how to kill each other at greater and greater distances. They developed their languages and their sense of separation from each other and the Earth. They learned that not all rocks were the same; some were harder, some broke into sharper shards, some were malleable. Sticks could be thrown further by woomeras or bows.

After only a couple of million years the apes were ready for bigger things. They prospered and multiplied across the Earth, building bigger and bigger piles of rocks – both for ammunition and to hide from other rock-throwers within. Banging the rocks together taught them about fire, sculpture, metallurgy and chemistry. Before too long they were building ROCKets and mounting highly refined rocks on their enlarged spear-points – the Great Mother had subtly affected their languages to subliminally keep them on the development track she needed them to take. Chemical rocks were mounted on the rockets at first, and then nuclear ones.

They developed the pathology necessary to attack one another continually. How else could the Mother convince the monkeys to defend her? To poison their environment, to dig into their mother’s flesh, to slaughter the creatures most like themselves? Psychotic and schizophrenic, they eventually hated themselves enough to build ROCKets with nuclear warheads with which they could attack themselves right across the globe – and beyond.

And then they became so smart they began to consider the real problem – asteroids – big rocks - and to imagine and create less dangerous and primitive ways of deflecting them. We’ve almost evolved as far as Gaia needed us to. We can almost protect her as well as she wants us to. The rest is up to us. The dawn of post-terrestrial humanity is upon us and it’s time to imagineer a future with peace and prosperity.

Which way do we want to go?

 The following is from echomixednuts:

‘I have a short story for you that has some moral lesson on it. I found this on a piece of paper somewhere in Jerusalem Israel, five years ago. In case you were the writer of this short story, please let me know.

Meantime here’s the story:’

“A frog that croaked”

photo

A group of frogs were hopping contentedly through the woods, going about their froggy business, when two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit to see what could be done to help their companions. When they saw how deep the pit was, they agreed that it was hopeless and told the two frogs in the pit that they should prepare themselves for their fate, because they were as good as dead.

Unwillingly to accept this terrible fate, the two frogs begun to jump with all their might. Some of the frogs shouted into the pit that it was hopeless, and that the two frog wouldn't be in that situation if they had been more careful, more obedient to the froggy rules, and more responsible.

The other frogs continued sorrowfully shouting that they should save their energy to give up, since they were already as good as gone. The two frogs continued jumping with all of their might, and after several hours of this, were quite weary.

Finally, one of the frogs took heed to the calls of his fellow frogs. Exhausted, he quitely resolved himself to his fate, lay down at the bottom of the pit, and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could, although his body was wracked with pain and he was quite exhausted. Once again is companion begun yelling at him to accept his fate, stop the pain and just die. The weary frog jumped harder and harder and, that he sprung from the pit... Amazed, the other frogs celebrated his freedom and gathering around him asked, "Why did you continue jumping when we told you it was impossible?"

The astonished frog explained to Thom that he was deaf, and as he saw their gestures and shouting, he thought that they were cheering him on. What he had perceived as encouragement inspired him to try harder and to all odds.

Shattered Planet Reborn

Shattered Planet Reborn

http://www.stardestroyer.net/Empire/Essays/ForeShadow-Planet.jpg

The core of the shattered planet which resided where the best-known asteroid belt abides spiralled away, way out of the ecliptic – the orbital plane of most of the ‘known’ planets – and repeatedly passed through the Sun’s system in an extended elliptical orbit. It returned a number of times in an ever-diminishing spiral. Comparatively recently, about 24,000 years ago, the wandering planet passed through a field of force, a flux-tube linking the Earth and Sun and disrupted this planet’s electrical sheath; the sky appeared to roll up like a scroll of burning parchment as the ionosphere ‘caught fire’ and a great wave rolled across the surface of the atmospheric ocean. Most of world civilization then extant was utterly destroyed, along with the memory of it.

Pyramids acted as insulators, protecting some who were clustered around them; but they were also used as power sources, capacitors and transducers that tapped the ionosphere. The system was destroyed – and destroyed again when it was rebuilt over millennia. Later, when that rogue planet now known as Venus almost collided with Jupiter and passed through its outer atmosphere it spiralled back in toward the Earth, repeatedly passing and disrupting its equilibrium; about thirteen thousand years ago the end of the last glaciation occurred when it passed by and the Terrestrial axis shifted by twenty degrees.

Almost seven thousand years ago the earth was disrupted by flood and fire again. After its last passage around 2,700 years ago, the wanderer settled into its current orbit as the orb known to the Romans as Venus – ‘she comes’ – by displacing the sphere which then occupied that place. According to legend, Rome was founded in 687 BCE.

The asteroid belt betwixt Mars and Jupiter is the crust of the ancient planet that resided there mixed with parts of the orb that collided with it. Some of the icy comets and rocky asteroids floating around the solar system were parts of the biosphere of that primordial planet.

Each of the planets in the solar system is approximately – but not quite – twice as far from the Sun as the one that precedes it. A major exception is the shell occupied by the aforementioned asteroid belt. Pluto is, of course, not a planet in the true sense but another recently captured smaller wanderer.

In an interstellar sense this macrocosmic atom is unstable as it is missing an electron. The changes to the solar system are not complete in any sense.   Humankind exists in a comforting amnesia. In order to access the truth you must go back into your own long memory – for you are really an immortal with memory problems – and you can access the memories of those who have gone before. Much physical evidence exists, but it is commonly passed over and ignored by those who study astronomy, geology, palaeontology, history…

History takes on new meaning with this awareness. Memory is a fluid motion in perpetual flux. Much is contained by the word ‘memory’. In Hebrew and other related ancient tongues ‘m’ – ‘mem’ – is the letter denoting ‘water’. Memory is a mirror. Mem mare – the sea, the water, the ocean of possibility, the first mirror. ‘Mir’ is ‘to see’ in many languages. Memory is looking through the waters, to see through the waters, the abyss, to look for the essence which is forever in flux.

Life on Earth, but for how much longer?

Life on Earth, but for how much longer?
We ignore James Lovelock's apocalyptic vision of the future, The Revenge of Gaia, at our peril, says Robin McKie

http://www.alexgrey.com/a-gallery/8-24/gaia.jpg

There is a classic short story by Robert Sheckley, the American science-fiction author, which tells of a group of settlers who land on a distant planet. There they begin their work: levelling mountains, changing the atmosphere and ploughing up wild places to make new homes for mankind.

Then things go wrong. Overnight, the land rises up and swallows their great earth-moving machines. Storms destroy their newly installed chemical plants. Chains of volcanoes erupt. The planet fights back. In panic, the settlers contact Earth, only to find their own home world, and all the other planets mankind has colonised, are being similarly assailed. Nature has suffered enough indignities at our hands. Humanity is getting the heave-ho.

Sheckley, who died a few weeks ago, was a sci-fi satirist and his tale was merely meant as a joke, albeit a pointed one. Yet I found images of those startled colonists continually popping into mind on reading James Lovelock's latest diagnosis of the state of planet Earth.

Just like those sci-fi settlers, humanity is about to get the elbow, it seems. Carbon dioxide is being pumped into the atmosphere at such rates that a point of no return, 'a tipping point', will be reached in a decade or so and global temperatures will abruptly soar. And that will be that, says Lovelock.

Icecaps will disappear and, without their reflectivity to bounce the Sun's rays back into space, temperatures will rise even faster. Methane and carbon dioxide, currently trapped in frozen tundra, will then be released, leading to further warming. Dozens of other feedback cycles will be disrupted. Our planet will burn like a crisp and, along with it, civilisation. Humanity, returned to its former ape-man status, will be lucky to hang on, grunting in the odd, deep cave. 'The world is fighting back,' says Lovelock. 'Like the Norns in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen, we are at the end of our tether, and the rope, whose weaves define our fate, is about to break.'

It is grand, biblical stuff, like an evangelical preacher cursing his wayward congregation. Miserable ecological sinners, we are all doomed. 'The bell has started tolling to mark our ending,' Lovelock tells us. 'Only a handful of the teeming billions now alive will survive.' Thus science meets the Book of Isaiah.

Such rhetoric, turned up to regulo eight throughout the book, might tempt the odd snigger, if it wasn't also so hideously convincing and appalling in its implications. After all, Lovelock is one of our most distinguished ecologists, the environment movement's sanest pontificator and a scientist of considerable distinction. We should take note of his words, for all their fire and brimstone.

Lovelock is renowned for his development, with biologist Lynn Margulis, in the early 1970s of the idea of Gaia, 'the dynamical physiological system that has kept our planet fit for life for more than three billion years'. According to the theory, all breathing things, from algae to elephants, are locked in self-regulating cycles of reproduction and behaviour which optimise conditions for life's sustenance. Or as Lovelock puts it: 'Life on Earth actively keeps the surface conditions always favourable for whatever is the contemporary ensemble of organisms.'

The concept of Gaia was initially greeted with scepticism by researchers who thought it suggested Earth was a living entity. Indeed, many greenies still think (wrongly) of Gaia this way. In fact, a better analogy is that of a giant self-regulator valve, like those used by engineers to control machine outputs. Used this way, the idea went on to help scientists sharpen their predictive powers, particularly over climate change. Today Gaia is mainstream.

Unfortunately, just as we have come to accept the notion, it has become plain that we are battering Gaia so badly she simply cannot take any more. Soon, she will switch to red-hot mode, as has happened before, and, by the time she has recovered, the works of man will have been turned to dust.

Such a future is not inevitable. Lovelock is at pains to suggest escape routes, most controversially by calling for the rapid expansion of nuclear energy programmes, the one large-scale, carbon-free type of power generation we possess. In general, however, he is gloomy to the point of near suicide. But given the rate at which we are rushing pell-mell to disaster, I cannot blame Lovelock. Kyoto, as he says, was a mere act of appeasement to polluters. We are a 'plague of people', he says, an infestation that has wrecked Earth. Very soon, we will pay the reckoning.

Give people What They Want

Give people What They Want

http://resources2.news.com.au/images/2009/12/31/1225814/996922-hawke-whitlam-murphy.jpg
Whitlam and friends

In the 1980s the Munchkins of Oz elected a government that was, at first, headed by honourable men. Eye had known the Prime Minister slightly for years, having been familiar with one of his daughters who lived among the hippies in a little valley in the subtropics. Her father Bob would visit her often and drink and play pool with the longhairs and new settlers in the little local pub also frequented by bikies, drug runners and sundry characters and identities.

In those days Bob was a Man of the People, head of the peak workers’ organization in the country and able to debate anything with anyone on the spur of the moment – and drink almost anyone under the table. He’d bong on with the local hippies and call everyone ‘comrade’ like his predecessor, the great White Lamb who had been deposed in a US and British Intelligence-inspired bloodless coup in 1975.

Bob was a Rhodes Scholar. They don’t allow many like him into politics any more. He would assure us all that when the party came to power they would help the back-to-the-land movement so prevalent in the 1970s, creating regional centres and funding rural commun(iti)es; he’d legalise marihuana, create industries around hemp, improve communications, hospitals and schools and hand more direct power to the workers. And he was a ladies’ man, and a man’s man too.

Bob maintained his stance even after his election. For the first year he explored different policies and potentials. Then he went to Washington and visited the Pentagon and was never the same again. He went to the United States as a dove-like Hawk and returned to the Great Southland with the mantle of the Eagle upon him. Soon, many who had known him and his daughter in those freer erstwhile days were in jail or living very quietly. He began to wind back the freedoms that had been recently granted to the population. Free universities were to become a momentary aberration in the land of the Munchkins instead of a right; they were hexed. Colleagues who showed him viable alternatives to oil and coal found themselves incarcerated and worse.

The friend of the people had become the friend of Washington. And what choice did he have? He could take the money or the gun. They had too much on him.

Bob & Friend

In the mid-80s Bob’s government pulled together a number of famous personages to travel around the nation continent in a travelling series of Constitutional Committees. The population was demanding change after the bloodless coup instituted by the US and UK a decade before and Bob was giving the appearance of heeding their wishes. The committees went from town to town, suburb to suburb and heard the various proposals brought to them by the citizens. After many months they reported to the government.

To the consternation of the politicians more than eighty percent of respondents all wanted the same change made to the laws governing their nation.

The wanted Citizens’ Initiated Referendums. This means that if the signatures of enough citizens can be assembled for any cause, that cause must be taken to a vote of the people at the time of the next general election. This simple single change would bring society closer to true democracy and involve the populace in decision-making and thinking about the issues that affect them. It would significantly reduce the power of political parties and their machines.

So the politicians ignored the wishes of more than four-fifths of the respondents and asked the Committee “What else did they want?”

A handful of minor divisive changes were put to the population in a referendum without bipartisan support. So distrustful of the government had people become that all four proposals were knocked back with a resounding ‘no’. Even the proposal which aimed to place in the constitution a provision that governments should be forced to pay fair compensation for private land taken from citizens was knocked back after the conservative opposition – led by the current Prime Monster – ran a scare campaign that successfully frightened the chooks.

Governments come and go. The song remains the same. It’s time for a change for the better. A world with citizens’ initiated referendums would be a more truly democratic place with more involved and intelligent citizens – if they can be presented with fair choices by an honest and diverse media – and if their choices can been accurately gauged and honestly presented by a reformed voting process.

The media and computer technocracy have to be honest – and overseen by honest institutions and individuals – or democracy is dead in any case. There is no justice without truth.

How long do you think political change can be staved off? Conservatism in its true sense is no longer a viable option. If we don’t improve the system things will NOT remain the same as they are. Freedom will continue to disappear and the planet and its people will continue to be poisoned and corrupted.

It’s high time for a change for the better.

Think about it. What do you think? What do you want? What changes would you make, if you had the power?

Memory (B)lock

Memory (B)lock

http://www.zeitlin.net/EndEnchantment/images/Tiamate5A.jpg

Humans have created a memory block between themselves and their own immortality; but this has been reinforced by deliberate occlusions laid down over the eyes of humanity by self-styled ‘higher consciousnesses’, to lock the sleeping genie in the bottle. Humans also acceded to these blocks as part of a healing process, because of past shocks and trauma.

Many do not wish to retain the knowledge that they are living in an inherently unstable solar system; it’s something that makes nonsense of much of hominid aspiration, industry and culture. It’s another reason for the mass occlusion, the collective erasure of memory (both personal and historical) of the fairly recent times when planets flew past near the Earth, when continents fractured and drowned, when vulcanism brought global disaster and decimated the human (and animal) populations; particularly when Venus/Lucifer ‘fell into the burning pit’, past earth toward the Sun.

The Sun and each of the planets resonate as nodes with crystal-like seeds in our bodies, that some call chakras, flowering jewels, vibrating in harmony with patterns within and without. ‘Lucifer’ – Luka Fara (from the Sanscrit via many places before Rome), meaning ‘maker of light’, was originally a planet resonating with the upper chakras, from a ‘higher’ orbit further from the protonic Sun. When this planet split and repeatedly fell through long cycles of elliptical spirals, there was a primal change in local consciousness, whose focus ‘fell’ in shock, to resonate below the level of the waters of forgetfulness, below the bottleneck throat, to more basal levels of awareness.

Another way of looking at the last few thousand years is that the Age or Yuga of Kali has been a time of healing sleep, of dreams and nightmares, when ‘unconscious’ or bio-emotional forces held sway while true conscious awareness was resting.

The people of earth are truly innocents. They were injured in childhood and are recovering. It’s not only humans that suffered memory occlusions from the moment when the blazing crustless core of the planet that some called Lucifer and others named Marduk fell through the solar system and past the Earth, when massive electrical discharges – thunderbolts – erupted between the capacitor/planets as they neared each other. The animals and plants, their totems and fields, were disrupted by the plasma from heaven – that fried all above the surface with intense and widespread electro-shock therapy. There weren’t many rubber boots in those times.

The planet that was the Stellar Mother of Pearl, the living crystal ball which existed beyond the current orbit of Mars, was smashed millions of years ago; the asteroid belt contains much of its crust, and the core wandered in a vast ellipse as the other planets were showered with debris from the collision which broke the jewel – at a time when Gaia’s children were decimated, the end of most of the ‘dinosaurs’ – and the beginning of the atrophy of the physical ‘third eye’.

Gaia herself was impregnated with the metals and other elements from that beautiful planet - and the other that crashed into it. Many deposits of soft metals mined from the Mother by humanity are actually relatively recent meteoric deposits. Humans have dug the remnants of Lucifer from Mother Earth only since its resurrection as blazing, recent Venus (whose Roman name means ‘she arrives’). Native humans could only easily conceive of digging into Gaia/Tya by being out of touch with their roots and themselves, an operation in which the surgeon is anaesthetised, along with the patient.

Sleep is not death. Forgetfulness is not erasure. But they have much in common and occur for a multitude of reasons, operating simultaneously at all levels. It’s in the nature of nurturing free will.
